Career Development in the 21st Century

I just finished my 18 Group in CD21 Above is a picture of the happy group on our last day of class. CD21 is a 2 week course that focuses on Career Exploration. The program is funded by HRDC and is open to any unemployed Canadian in Canada. There are five different assessments done to help an individual become more self aware. There is opportunity for group projects and during the second week there is a research component.

5 Different Assessments

Jackson Vocational Interest Survey this is done on the computer before you even come into class. It consists of 289 questions where the individual is asked to chose either A or B. There are 34 different categories of iterests that are identified.

Personality Research Form is also done on the computer and you are asked 352 true or false questions. This assessments looks at 20 different perosnality traits. This assessment will identify barriers such as Abasement (someone who beats themself up) Aggression, Harmavoidance (fear or failure or success), Defendence, and Succurance (inability to make decisions on your own) are just a few of the traits that will be identified.

True Colors is a personality assessment that looks at four different types of personality. Blue (those who have great people skills, are very creative and do not like conflict), Orange (the life of the party love varity and could sell you the shirt off their back), Green (very analytical, deep thinkers and love an intellectual challenge) and Gold (very structured, like everything in its place and a place for everything). With every color there are strengths and careers that fit each personality type.

Learning Styles is an assessment that helps the individual understand how they learn. Are you Auditory, Visual or Kinisthetic. Once you have preceived the information how do you process it. This is helpful in understanding yourself as well as choosing a career that fits your learning style.

Emotional Intelligence is an assessment that evaluated compentencies such as your emotional awareness, networking skills, flexibility, and a variety of other emotional compentencies. Emotional Intelligence starts around 20 and peaks at 54 it is something that we all can be very good at if we want as it is largely learned. It is also something that employers are really taking a look at as they are finding that just because someone has a high IQ doesn't necessarly mean they are a good team player. Meaning they are not emotionally mature? You will also play an Emotional Intelligence Game that was created in PID 102B it is a fun way to learn and evaluate your emotional compentencies.
